Environment - Pressed adobe blocks, commonly known as as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are made employing a mixture of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by making use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost completely dry and ready for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in the compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation due to their uniformity of shape and size. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which boosts the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be created in every seasons because of the reduced moisture content.

Made by hand, or puddled, adobe bricks begin whenever a simple mixture of earth and water is mixed with a near mud consistency. The mix will be laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud in to the desired brick shape and size. The proper execution is lifted from the adobe when the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape with no form. Following a day or two of sunshine, the bricks are set on edge to dry. The drying process may take in one to four weeks to totally cure based on conditions. Puddled adobes bring about bricks with a more individual shape, size and appearance; no two bricks are quite the identical. They offer for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in the finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often perform best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe has made bricks in the borderlands of Mexico for the farm country of Montana.
