They will use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, with respect to the client and circumstances.

Adobe - Pressed adobe blocks, sometimes known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are created utilizing a mixture of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by utilizing hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost totally dry and ready for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation due to their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which increases the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be produced in every seasons as a result of reduced moisture content.

Hand made, or puddled, adobe bricks begin each time a simple mix of earth and water is mixed to some near mud consistency. A combination will then be laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud in to the desired brick size and shape. The shape is lifted off the adobe when the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape without the form. After having a day or two regarding, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process will take in one to four weeks to completely cure based on climate conditions. Puddled adobes result in bricks using a more individual shape, size and look; no two bricks are very exactly the same. They provide for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often perform best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks from your borderlands of Mexico for the farm country of Montana.
