Building Homes Not Houses

Beyond Adobe's goal is to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable answers to new and old homes from the world's most energy-efficient and sturdy material: earth; and now expands to providing individuals with their greatest tool of all: knowledge, to construct their very own.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, Boise state broncos. They regularly work through the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, for urban and rural projects. They like working with individuals and communities alike to build up, preserve and restore earth buildings. Throughout a 2010 project in Old Town Cottonwood, that they had the truly amazing pleasure of adding your bathrooms addition for the now expanded Old Town Center for your Arts.

It's all regulated within the Shape

Beyond Adobe will make any size, shape, or form of adobe brick you want, and it is able to make custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They'll use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, with respect to the client and circumstances.

Environment - Pressed adobe blocks, commonly known as as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are manufactured utilizing a combination of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced through the use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in the compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and more efficient installation due to their uniformity of shape and size. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which raises the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be made in every seasons as a result of reduced moisture content.

Handmade, or puddled, adobe bricks begin each time a simple mixture of earth and water is mixed to some near mud consistency. The mixture is then laid in forms on a lawn to mold the mud to the desired brick shape and size. The proper execution is lifted off the adobe once the mud dries enough to help keep the adobes shape without the form. Following a day or two of sunshine, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process will take from one to one month to completely cure based on weather conditions. Puddled adobes result in bricks with a more individual shape, size and appearance; no two bricks are very the identical. They supply for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in the finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and people with difficult access, site made adobes often work most effectively for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks from your borderlands of Mexico to the farm country of Montana.

Finished to Fine Perfection

Earth plasters and natural clay plasters bring beautiful, appealing finishes of nature to adobe walls. Earth plasters are a blend of pure clays and aggregates with coloring agents which come from natural, non-toxic oxides and ochre mineral pigments. The plasters create stunning moods of their own, along with a beautiful backdrop for art or wall hangings.

Natural clay plasters are organic and green both in their production and application. Their low embodied energy content makes then safe to use when applying in their completed form. They are extremely energy-efficient which help control humidity and temperature fluctuations: providing cooler climates in Summer, and warmer in the winter months. Also, they are non-dusting, mold and fade resistant, and simply repairable.

Beyond Adobe produces their particular true, earth plaster. The plaster could be partially stabilized with lime or Portland cement. This earth plaster makes excellent base coats for both adobe and straw bale walls. Additionally, it can also function as beautiful final plaster.

Brick - Beyond Adobe can also be an officially certified installer of yank Clay Earth Plasters. Manufactured in, and ultizing materials from, america, American Clay uses natural clays, recycled and reclaimed aggregates and vibrant natural pigments.
