The very first time I visited Thailand was back in 1973. I was a soldier in-the United States Of America Army and Bangkok was my first work station. I was there for 18 months and my first meal back America was a Big Mac, fries and a Coke. Times have changed and the Thailand countryside is dotted by fast food places. From KFC to McDonalds to Pizza Hut is everywhere. They are not only in the big cities and tourist city, but occur in smaller towns like Phitsanulok and Khon Kaen. Granted, I am a junk food junkie back in the states, but generally in Thailand, I often eat the neighborhood food. Really it's Thai fast food. I would rather eat in the local street vendors that could have a plate ready for you in less than one minute. And, it's a lot cheaper and nicer than the area Burger King. But, when I'm in Thailand for three or four months, fundamentally I cave in and need some burgers, fried chicken, or pizza. And, for my Thai partner, it is a particular treat to eat from one of the American "restaurants." I like to eat the fresh seafood at the local restaurants, when I go to Khon Kaen. Bar-B-Que prawn with veggies and grain is all I need for lunch. My sweetie are certain to get some oysters and papaya salad and all is good. When we are in the room and choose to stay into watch a DVD movie, she just wants to call the Pizza Company for many pizza and chicken wings. I obtain the pizza and the wings are devoured by her.
