Beyond Adobe's goal is to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable methods to new and old homes out from the world's most energy-efficient and durable material: earth; and today expands to providing people with their greatest tool of: knowledge, to create their very own.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, Boise state broncos. They regularly work throughout the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, for urban and rural projects. They enjoy working together with individuals and communities alike to build up, preserve and restore earth buildings. It's all regulated inside the Shape

Beyond Adobe will make any size, shape, or type of adobe brick you want, and it is capable of making custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They will use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, depending on the client and circumstances.

Design - Pressed adobe blocks, sometimes known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are created utilizing a combination of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced through the use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost completely dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in the compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation due to their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which increases the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be made in most seasons as a result of reduced moisture content.

Hand made, or puddled, adobe bricks begin each time a simple mix of earth and water is mixed to a near mud consistency. A combination will be laid in forms on a lawn to mold the mud to the desired brick size and shape. The proper execution is lifted from the adobe if the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape with no form. After a few days associated with, the bricks are positioned on edge to dry. The drying process can take from to one month to totally cure depending on conditions. Puddled adobes result in bricks with a more individual shape, size and appearance; no two bricks can be exactly the same. They provide for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in the finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and the ones with difficult access, site made adobes often perform best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe has created bricks in the borderlands of Mexico to the farm country of Montana.

Finished to Fine Perfection

Earth plasters and natural clay plasters bring beautiful, appealing finishes of nature to adobe walls. They may be extremely energy efficient which help control humidity and temperature fluctuations: providing cooler climates in Summer, and warmer in the winter months. Also, they are non-dusting, mold and fade resistant, and repairable.

Beyond Adobe produces their particular true, earth plaster. The plaster may be partially stabilized with lime or Portland cement. This earth plaster makes excellent base coats for both adobe and straw bale walls. Furthermore, it can also work as beautiful final plaster.
