Building Homes Not Houses

Beyond Adobe's goal is always to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable methods to new and old homes out of the world's most power efficient and sturdy material: earth; and now expands to providing people who have their greatest tool of most: knowledge, to construct their own.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, New Mexico. They regularly work through the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, for both urban and rural projects. They like dealing with individuals and communities alike to build up, preserve and restore earth buildings. It's all regulated inside the Shape

Beyond Adobe is likely to make any size, shape, or form of adobe brick you would like, and is also capable of making custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They'll use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, depending on the client and circumstances.

Sustainable - Pressed adobe blocks, commonly known as as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are created employing a combination of present day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by making use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost totally dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, both in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker plus more efficient installation because of their uniformity of configuration. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which increases the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be created in every seasons because of the reduced moisture content.

Hand made, or puddled, adobe bricks begin each time a simple combination of earth and water is mixed to a near mud consistency. A combination will then be laid in forms on the floor to mold the mud in to the desired brick shape and size. The proper execution is lifted off of the adobe if the mud dries enough to maintain the adobes shape without the form. After a day or two of sunshine, the bricks are set on edge to dry. The drying process can take in one to one month to totally cure depending on weather conditions. Puddled adobes lead to bricks having a more individual shape, size and appearance; no two bricks are very the identical. They supply to get a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in the finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often work most effectively for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe has created bricks from the borderlands of Mexico to the farm country of Montana.
