Building Homes Not Houses

Beyond Adobe's goal is to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable answers to new and old homes out from the world's most energy efficient and sturdy material: earth; now expands to providing people who have their greatest tool of: knowledge, to build their particular.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, Boise state broncos. They regularly work through the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, both for urban and rural projects. They love working together with individuals and communities alike to produce, preserve and restore earth buildings. Throughout a 2010 project in Old Town Cottonwood, that they had the truly amazing pleasure of adding your bathroom accessory for the now expanded Old Town Center for that Arts.

It's All within the Shape

Beyond Adobe can make any size, shape, or form of adobe brick you would like, and is creating custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They will use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, with respect to the client and circumstances.

Adobe - Pressed adobe blocks, best known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are created employing a mixture of present day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced through the use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in the compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation because of their uniformity of configuration. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which raises the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be made in all seasons due to the reduced moisture content.

Handmade, or puddled, adobe bricks begin each time a simple combination of earth and water is mixed to some near mud consistency. The mix will be laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud in to the desired brick configuration. The proper execution is lifted from the adobe once the mud dries enough to help keep the adobes shape minus the form. Following a few days associated with, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process will take from to four weeks to fully cure depending on conditions. Puddled adobes bring about bricks with a more individual shape, size and appear; no two bricks are very exactly the same. They supply for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often work best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks in the borderlands of Mexico to the farm country of Montana.

Finished to Fine Perfection

Earth plasters and natural clay plasters bring beautiful, appealing finishes of nature to adobe walls. Earth plasters really are a mixture of pure clays and aggregates with coloring agents which come from natural, non-toxic oxides and ochre mineral pigments. The plasters create stunning moods of their very own, along with a beautiful backdrop for art or wall hangings.

Natural clay plasters are organic and green in the their production and application. Their low embodied energy content makes then safe to use when applying in their completed form. They are extremely energy efficient and help control temperature and humidity fluctuations: providing cooler climates in Summer, and warmer in Winter. They are also non-dusting, mold and fade resistant, and simply repairable.

Beyond Adobe produces their own true, earth plaster. The plaster might be partially stabilized with lime or Portland cement. This earth plaster makes excellent base coats for adobe and straw bale walls. Furthermore, it may also work as beautiful final plaster.

Earth - Beyond Adobe can also be an officially certified installer of yank Clay Earth Plasters. Manufactured in, and taking advantage of materials from, the United States, American Clay uses natural clays, recycled and reclaimed aggregates and vibrant natural pigments.
