Dirt - Pressed adobe blocks, best known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are made utilizing a mix of present day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced through the use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost totally dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker plus more efficient installation because of their uniformity of configuration. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which increases the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be produced in all seasons as a result of reduced moisture content.

Handmade, or puddled, adobe bricks begin when a simple mixture of earth and water is mixed with a near mud consistency. A combination will be laid in forms on the floor to mold the mud into the desired brick configuration. The proper execution is lifted off of the adobe when the mud dries enough to maintain the adobes shape without the form. After having a day or two associated with, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process will take from one to one month to totally cure according to climate conditions. Puddled adobes bring about bricks having a more individual shape, size and appear; no two bricks are quite the identical. They provide for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often perform best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks from the borderlands of Mexico towards the farm country of Montana.
