They'll use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, depending on the client and circumstances.

DIY - Pressed adobe blocks, sometimes known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are made utilizing a mix of modern-day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by making use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, both in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and more efficient installation for their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which increases the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be created in every seasons because of the reduced moisture content.

Hand made, or puddled, adobe bricks begin when a simple combination of earth and water is mixed to a near mud consistency. The mix will then be laid in forms on a lawn to mold the mud in to the desired brick shape and size. The shape is lifted off the adobe once the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape minus the form. Following a few days regarding, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process can take in one to one month to totally cure depending on weather conditions. Puddled adobes bring about bricks with a more individual shape, size and appear; no two bricks can be exactly the same. They provide for any unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and people with difficult access, site made adobes often perform best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe has made bricks in the borderlands of Mexico for the farm country of Montana.
