Beyond Adobe's goal would be to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable answers to old and new homes from the world's most power efficient and sturdy material: earth; now expands to providing individuals with their greatest tool of all: knowledge, to construct their particular.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, New Mexico. They regularly work throughout the American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, for both urban and rural projects. They enjoy dealing with individuals and communities alike to produce, preserve and restore earth buildings. Throughout a 2010 project in Old Town Cottonwood, that they had the great pleasure of adding your bathroom addition to the now expanded Old Town Center for that Arts.

It's all regulated in the Shape

Beyond Adobe will make any size, shape, or type of adobe brick you would like, and is also able to make custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They'll use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, with respect to the client and circumstances.

Dirt - Pressed adobe blocks, best known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are manufactured using a combination of present day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced through the use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost dry and ready for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker plus more efficient installation due to their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which boosts the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be made in most seasons due to the reduced moisture content.

Made by hand, or puddled, adobe bricks begin whenever a simple combination of earth and water is mixed to some near mud consistency. The mix will be laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud in to the desired brick size and shape. The form is lifted off the adobe when the mud dries enough to help keep the adobes shape with no form. After a couple of days of sunshine, the bricks are positioned on edge to dry. The drying process can take in one to a month to completely cure depending on conditions. Puddled adobes bring about bricks using a more individual shape, size and appearance; no two bricks can be exactly the same. They provide to get a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often work best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks from the borderlands of Mexico to the farm country of Montana.

Finished to Fine Perfection

Earth plasters and natural clay plasters bring beautiful, appealing finishes of nature to adobe walls. Earth plasters really are a blend of pure clays and aggregates with coloring agents that come from natural, non-toxic oxides and ochre mineral pigments. The plasters create stunning moods that belongs to them, plus a beautiful backdrop for art or wall hangings.

Natural clay plasters are organic and green in both their production and application. Their low embodied energy content makes then safe to use when applying within their completed form. They're extremely energy efficient which help control temperature and humidity fluctuations: providing cooler climates in Summer, and warmer in the wintertime. They are also non-dusting, mold and fade resistant, and repairable.

Beyond Adobe produces their particular true, earth plaster. The plaster could be partially stabilized with lime or Portland cement. This earth plaster makes excellent base coats for both adobe and straw bale walls. In addition, it may also function as beautiful final plaster.
