DIY - Pressed adobe blocks, best known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are manufactured using a mix of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by utilizing hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost completely dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, both in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation for their uniformity of size and shape. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which raises the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be made in every seasons as a result of reduced moisture content.

Made by hand, or puddled, adobe bricks begin whenever a simple mixture of earth and water is mixed to some near mud consistency. A combination is then laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud into the desired brick shape and size. The proper execution is lifted off the adobe when the mud dries enough to maintain the adobes shape without the form. Following a few days regarding, the bricks are placed on edge to dry. The drying process will take from one to a month to totally cure according to conditions. Puddled adobes result in bricks having a more individual shape, size and look; no two bricks can be exactly the same. They offer to get a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed in a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and those with difficult access, site made adobes often work best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe has made bricks in the borderlands of Mexico for the farm country of Montana.
