Beyond Adobe's goal is always to provide affordable, beautiful and sustainable solutions to old and new homes from the world's most energy efficient and sturdy material: earth; now expands to providing people with their greatest tool of: knowledge, to construct their very own.

Beyond Adobe maintains adobe production yards in Camp Verde, Arizona and Deming, New Mexico. They regularly work through the entire American West utilizing local soils for on-site adobe production, both for urban and rural projects. They enjoy working together with individuals and communities alike to build up, preserve and restore earth buildings. Throughout a 2010 project in Old Town Cottonwood, that they had the fantastic pleasure of adding a bathroom addition for the now expanded Old Town Center for your Arts.

It's all regulated within the Shape

Beyond Adobe will make any size, shape, or kind of adobe brick you would like, and is capable of making custom colored bricks from specified dirt or special shaped adobes to meet architectural demands. They'll use either pressed adobe, puddled adobe, or site made, based on the client and circumstances.

Eco - Pressed adobe blocks, sometimes known as compressed adobe bricks or Earth blocks, are made utilizing a mixture of modern day technology and traditional earth building knowledge. Enhanced by making use of hydraulic presses and machine automation, the bricks emerge almost dry and prepared for building. Pressed adobes provide significant increases in strength, both in compression and modulus of rupture, providing for quicker and much more efficient installation because of their uniformity of shape and size. The hydraulic force increases soil density, which boosts the bricks' thermal mass ratings. Pressed adobes can be produced in all seasons because of the reduced moisture content.

Handmade, or puddled, adobe bricks begin when a simple mix of earth and water is mixed to a near mud consistency. A combination is then laid in forms on the ground to mold the mud into the desired brick shape and size. The form is lifted from the adobe once the mud dries enough to keep the adobes shape without the form. After having a few days associated with, the bricks are positioned on edge to dry. The drying process can take from one to four weeks to totally cure based on conditions. Puddled adobes lead to bricks with a more individual shape, size and appear; no two bricks are quite exactly the same. They supply for a unique and pleasing aesthetic when left exposed inside a finished wall.

Site made adobe bricks vary widely. For rural sites and the ones with difficult access, site made adobes often work best for logistics and shipping costs. Beyond Adobe makes bricks in the borderlands of Mexico for the farm country of Montana.

Finished to Fine Perfection

Earth plasters and natural clay plasters bring beautiful, appealing finishes of nature to adobe walls. Earth plasters certainly are a mixture of pure clays and aggregates with coloring agents that can come from natural, non-toxic oxides and ochre mineral pigments. The plasters create stunning moods of their own, and a beautiful backdrop for art or wall hangings.

Natural clay plasters are organic and environmentally friendly in the their production and application. Their low embodied energy content makes then dependable when applying in their completed form. They're extremely power efficient which help control temperature and humidity fluctuations: providing cooler climates in Summer, and warmer in the wintertime. They are also non-dusting, mold and fade resistant, and repairable.

Beyond Adobe produces their own true, earth plaster. The plaster could be partially stabilized with lime or Portland cement. This earth plaster makes excellent base coats both for adobe and straw bale walls. Additionally, it can also work as beautiful final plaster.
