A couple of weeks ago my son and I went for a bike ride on a cold, windy day. We each had on a hood/mask made by different major sportswear brands. Though the products protected our head and face, we each had the same complaint. The hoods cut off at the Adams apple, leaving our lower neck exposed. It struck us as odd that two leading companies made very similar products – but neither one quite finished the job. Last week I was searching on Amazon for something else when a product listing caught my eye. The heading said AguaForma Multi-Sport Hood Mask Set, but it was the photos that got my attention. They showed a hood with a long neckline that actually came down all the way to the shoulders. I had to have a closer look. As I read further this looked like just what we wished for on that drafty bike ride. The piece was designed to be tucked in under a coat, parka etc. Beyond that, the "set" also included two long neck gaiters, one made from thin lycra, the other from thick fleece. The listing described many ways to wear the gear based on changing elements. I was not familiar with AguaForma, but I liked what I saw. They had a lot of 5-star reviews from buyers talking about quality and versatility. At 34.95, the offer looked like a good value for only a few bucks more than we paid for each big brand hood alone that fell short – literally. I had seen enough to take a chance, so I ordered 2 packages. When the UPS driver arrived I was immediately impressed upon first opening the Amazon shipping box. Inside were two craft paper envelopes with logos, and inside of those were the individually wrapped, labeled and tagged items. The company also included a detailed letter suggesting wearing variations, hot weather uses I had never thought of, care instructions, etc. (That was a considerable improvement over the big brand packaging. Those hoods came out of the Amazon bag in a generic plastic bag with a retail tag – and nothing else.) I'll get right to the point here. This gear is everything the company claims and their reviewers confirm. The items are comfortable, made from excellent quality material, and they appear to be well sewn. Playing around with the pieces with the benefit of some YouTube videos, we've discovered that the hood/balaclava can be worn as a gaiter, and the gaiters can be worn as a hood/mask – plus a whole lot more variations. My son can't wait to wear his for paintball and airsoft, and I'll find plenty of uses for mine. The company suggests keeping sets in every car to be prepared for sudden storms. Having been stranded in one that made national news last year, I think we'll follow that advice. I am very pleased with this purchase, and I will keep my eye on AguaForma products in the future. I recommend that you click the Amazon link and buy this gear if you like what you see. I will be interested to see what others have to say..
